A SMALL SVOLTA TOWARDS THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY
It has been a semester of sustainable fashion for Svoltastudenti. The two editions of the Svolta Swap Party held at the Campus Bovisa Durando were cornerstone events for the association and representative list.
The aim was to sensitise students towards a greener approach to clothing, a sector that has suffered from a strong environmental impact in recent years. The fashion industry is responsible for 10% of global annual carbon emissions, and 30% of clothes are overproduced and disposed of without ever having been worn.
This is why Svoltastudenti decided to do its part by organising a clothes swap market. During the event, each participant receives a *token* for each piece of clothing handed in, and this can be used as currency to *buy* other clothes. In addition to this, the remaining clothes were donated to Opera San Francesco (a charity committed to assisting people in need).
Both editions were really appreciated by the students: during the October edition institutional greetings from the Vice-Chancellor for Sustainability and Campus Life Director Chiara Pesenti were delivered, while during the November edition two different areas were set up inside the B2 building to raise awareness of the theme.
The activity was also promoted by the Politecnico’s newsletter Orizzonti Sostenibili. Svoltastudenti is already thinking about the next spring edition, where the new season and the coming of Spring will lead to an all-round expansion of the Swap Party.
